Workshop 1

Your Future/Your Options

Informative, informal sessions. As you explore your next steps, there are so many possibilities to consider, perhaps none more important than where you live and how you address your health needs. Whether your desire is to remain in your current home, downsize, or explore one of the many retirement options available in Connecticut, our retirement workshop can provide you with the planning strategies and tools you need. In our workshop, we'll talk about staying in your own home with modifications, assisted living, 55+ communities, continuing care, and more. These workshops are designed for small groups so that all of your specific concerns and questions can be addressed.

Join us at 10:00 a.m. for a workshop and lunch on one of the following dates:

  • February 28
  • March 20
  • April 3

Space is limited to 14 participants per session.

Workshop 2

Long Term Care Insurance: What You Need to Know

There seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to long term care insurance. Understanding your existing policy and how it might dovetail with your other retirement strategies is paramount. This workshop has been designed to review the generic framework of long term care insurance. We will discuss benefits, elimination periods, and other specifics to help you become more comfortable with policy language and procedure. Together we will develop questions to ask your insurance agent, and a checklist to ensure that you and your health care designee are prepared to handle the unexpected.

Join us at 10:00 a.m. on one of the following dates:

  • February 7
  • March 6
  • April 17

Space is limited to 14 participants per session.

Workshop 3

I'm Ready, What's Next?

You've completed your research, you've visited several communities, you've found a retirement option that appeals to you and will require a physical move, and now feel almost ready to solidify your retirement plans. There are just a few things standing in your way. Does your attic frighten you? Have you spent the last 20 to 40 years accumulating treasures? What does the timeline for such a move look like? How do you select a realtor and get your home ready to go on the market? What resources are there to help with right-sizing, moving, storage, tag sales, etc? This workshop is truly the nuts and bolts approach to the next phase of your retirement plan. Susan Carpenter and Maureen Campbell have helped thousands of clients through this stage over the past 30 years and have developed a few tools and strategies along the way.

Join us as we de-mystify, de-clutter and delight in taking the next step! Each workshop begins at 9:30 a.m. and is followed by lunch:

  • March 13
  • April 24

Space is limited to 12 participants per session. Please contact Tara Gibas (860.767.7201 or gibast@essexmeadows.com) to reserve your place.

Our Presenter:

Susan Carpenter, Marketing Director at Essex Meadows, will share her two decades of research and experience in the retirement industry. Susan completed her undergraduate work at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and her graduate work in gerontology and thanatology at the College of New Rochelle. Susan will discuss aging demographics and changes in the retirement industry. Most important, she can provide you with the tools and planning strategies you need as you embark on this next phase of your life.

“The workshops on Retirement Options and Long Term Care Insurance were way beyond expectations! Susan Carpenter is extremely knowledgeable on the various options available, the factors to consider, and the many decisions confronting potential candidates for a retirement/life care community. Her presentations are worthy of a college professor, but they are delivered in a friendly informal setting instead of a lecture hall. In the small group workshops, everyone feels free to ask questions and we all learned a great deal - not only from Susan but also from each other's questions and shared experiences. It was nice to meet fellow potential residents, with whom we shared a luncheon table afterwards. One of them said later, ‘I never knew that looking at a retirement community could be so much fun.’ ”
