Yale Brass Trio with Mihae Lee on Piano
Join us for a wonderful Sunday afternoon concert with the Yale Brass Trio, accompanied by pianist Mihae Lee. The trio features three Yale School of Music faculty members, each of whom has established a high-profile career of his own: William Purvis on horn; Allan Dean on trumpet; and Scott Hartman on trombone. Along with award-winning guest pianist Mihae Lee, they will perform an eclectic program featuring music from the English Renaissance to 19th century France and on to the present day.
About the artists: William Purvis pursues a multifaceted career in the U.S. and abroad as a horn soloist, chamber musician, conductor, and educator. A Grammy Award winner, he has recorded extensively on numerous labels, is a frequent guest with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Boston Chamber Music Society, and has collaborated with many of the world’s most esteemed string quartets. Allan Dean performs trumpet with a range of brass bands and was a member of the New York Brass Quintet for 18 years. In the early music field, he was a founding member of Calliope: A Renaissance Band and the New York Cornet and Sacbut Ensemble. He can be heard playing both modern trumpet and early brass on over 80 recordings on most major labels. As a trombone soloist and with various chamber groups, Scott Hartman has taught and played concerts throughout the world and in all 50 states. He has recorded for the Angel/EMI, Sony, Telarc, Summit and Dorian labels. Praised by The Boston Globe as “simply dazzling,” pianist Mihae Lee has performed at such venues as Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Academia Nationale de Santa Cecilia in Rome. Locally, she serves as Artistic Director of the Essex Winter Series, where she says her aim is to “bring world-class quality with diversity. We bring something different to each performance – soloists, jazz, and orchestras.”
